This project serves as a prime example of energy-conscious building design and the use of renewable energy in Kazakhstan. The newly constructed Yryskeldi Qajy Ata Meshiti Mosque in Astana was planned with ambitious goals to significantly enhance thermal performance from the planning stage.

Through thermal building simulation, we optimized the design for both energy efficiency and thermal comfort. Multiple design variations were analyzed to determine the ideal building envelope and ventilation strategy, ultimately achieving a 70% reduction in energy consumption compared to a conventional baseline building.

As a result, the Yryskeldi Qajy Ata Meshiti Mosque is the first mosque in the world to achieve a positive annual electricity balance while maintaining exceptionally low heating demands.
